Chattanooga District of the UMC Youth Ministry Report June 2006
The DCYM decided in their April 25th meeting that the Spring event to elect CCYM representatives would be a lock-in. We decided to have it at the North River YMCA on June 9th. The event turned out to be a huge success. We had nine churches represented with two coming all the way from Dunlap (Chapel Hill and Dunlap). With swimming, racquetball, dodge ball and basketball, we all had plenty of opportunity to get to know one another.
Another purpose for the lock-in was CCYM Elections. We had eight youth that applied and voiced their interest in serving as the Chattanooga District’s representative on the Conference Council on Youth Ministries. They varied from 8th graders to seniors. It was great to see such interest among the youth in serving on the CCYM. The elections also came down to a runoff. It was very close and all applicants are to be commended on their qualifications. However, in the end we could only have three elected. Our two CCYM representatives are William (Shorty) Huggins-(St Elmo) and Marc Mann-(Brainerd). Our alternate is Summer Rudd-(St John). The conference is still accepting applications for ethnic/racial at-large CCYM reps and they can be found on the conference web page (http://holstonconference.org/youth/) under “registration and forms”. The current CCYM reps, Marc Mann(Brainerd) and Jennifer Starnes(Jones), and At-Large CCYM reps William (Shorty) Huggins and LaDarius Mitchell will continue to serve until the CCYM retreat the first weekend of August when newly elected representatives assume office.
Some youth from Tyner and St Elmo helped at the district office the morning of the district lock-in when it was time to load all the health kits collected from around the district. Many hands made the work lighter thus we were able to wrap up in record time.
Sept 15-17 Sr High Event at Camp Lookout The ULTIMATE REALITY. We will gather with groups from all over town to have team building events that would be similar to all the reality shows you know and love. Real World/Road Rules Challenge, Survivor, Fear Factor, The Great Race, The Gauntlet, The Inferno...no reality show is off limits. Maybe even a little American Idol action. Regardless of the show, it will be the craziest, grossest, most challenging retreat you've ever taken on! The events will soon be announced so you can begin working on how to elevate your game to its peak. Don't miss it!!
